Facebook and Amazon

My announcement of "Grandmother's Devil" on Facebook brought more responses and well wishes than I would have ever imagined. So many wonderful comments and reactions! And friends/fellow writers Beth Grimm and James White posted terrific initial reviews on Amazon. I'm still learning how to work with the social media and self-publishing aspects of book writing. It's a different game for writers altogether. Meanwhile I am pondering how best to have an "official " book launch when the air clears. I think everyone could use a party about now. I know I could!

Snippets of Stories Available

Grandmother's Devil & Other Tempting Tales has its own website and features short excerpts from each story in the book, accompanied by Diane Slade's illustration for the stories. Enjoy and please share with your friends!

My First Short Story Collection Published

My first short story collection, Grandmother's Devil & Other Tasty Tales, has been published by Canyon Rose Press and is now available on Amazon or by special order from your favorite independent bookstore. Snippets of the stories may be read here.

Grandmother's Devil & Other Tasty Tales is a collection unconventional stories about six imaginary grandmothers doing what they do best: caring for their loved ones and trying to keep them out of trouble. The stories are titled

  • Grandmother Sits
  • Grandmother's Predictions
  • Grandmother of God
  • Grandmother Naked
  • Grandmother's Devil
  • Grand-mère Le Cigare

These are not my grandmothers. Perhaps they are yours. Perhaps not. It really doesn't matter. I hope their stories will capture your imagination and the grandmothers will steal your heart.

The first story in the collection, "Grandmother Sits," was published in a slightly different version by The Ravensperch.com. Another story "Grandmother of God," was first published in Meritage, the recent anthology of the Napa Valley Writers chapter of The California Writers Club.

You can hear me read an earlier version of "Grandmother Sits" on "The Storytellers," a monthly radio show on KZCT community radio, Vallejo, CA. I love producing this show because it gives so many writers of short prose a venue for performing their work. To listen to the story, scroll down to the April 18, 2019 show and click on the timeline at the roughly 60 minute mark.

Better yet, listen to the entire show which features such great storytellers as Lois Requist (author of Late Harvest Green), Beth Grimm (author of the soon to be published Great Grandpa Chronicles), Dana Rodney (author of the short story "Abduction," Aletheia Morden (author of "The Queen of Tonga," published in the Napa Valley Writers anthology "Meritage," and Carolyn Plath, reading from her upcoming memoir, Glenn's Sister. There are lots of terrific stories on the website by very talented writers, some of whom are published and others who soon will be. If you're inclined to join us, contact details are on the California Storytellers site.
